Meet The Obenauers

Obenauer Family

The Obenauers had always wanted to move to Elyson.

When they were expecting their son, Misty and David made the choice to move from their home in the Galleria area to Katy. “We had been watching Elyson since its inception, but we were in a different financial situation. We decided to buy in a neighboring area and build up equity before moving to Elyson.”

Moving to Katy
Originally from Wisconsin, Misty and David had lived all over the country before coming to Houston. “Once we knew we were having a baby, we started thinking about schools,” Misty said, “We wanted safety and a yard for our dogs, Lambo and Madison – they’re golden labs.”

And then school rezoning…
Before coming to Elyson, the Obenauers had lived in their other Katy home for around 8 years. “We got a notification that our son was going to be rezoned to Youngblood, the new elementary school, and so we thought, maybe it’s time to look at Elyson again,” Misty said.

Old neighbors, new neighbors
The Obenauers had a friend who lived in Elyson (they had actually first introduced her to the community!) and she forwarded them an email about Brookfield Residential’s grand opening Rodeo celebration. “We knew we wanted to move because of the school rezoning, so we came to check it out, and we really liked the Brookfield models,” Misty said. “We were looking at the Norwich model, but we didn’t need all those bedrooms. I loved the black honeycomb tile and the backsplash that stretched up to the ceiling, and Belinda said she had the perfect home for us.”

The perfect homesite
Misty and David had wanted a lot without back neighbors, and the home Belinda showed them was on a corner lot on a cul-de-sac with only one neighbor. “We say it all the time, it was amazing,” Misty said. “It was perfect for us. It was the Wellesley floor plan, so it was two stories with two bedrooms down and two up, plus an office down and 3 bathrooms. Plus it had a really big backyard that wraps all the way around the house, and there are walking paths next to us and behind us. It’s just beautiful.”

Ready for residents
The home was already under construction, which meant the Obenauers had less wait time for construction.” We didn’t select anything, but whoever designed our house did such a good job,” Misty said. “We get amazing compliments on the inside, tiles, down to the doors and doorstops and door handles; everything looks so nice. It’s elevated –  nothing looks like builder grade. They did a phenomenal job – it’s stunning.”

High-quality from the inside out
The Obenauers were impressed with the high-quality materials that Brookfield used in construction. “With our last builder, everything felt like they had cut corners,” Misty said. “It was our first house, and our first time building and we didn’t know what was going on. We had a better idea this time. We met with Jason when this house was up in sticks, and he showed us the materials they were using like the extra insulation and the high quality of the lumber. Things like that are so important. Our real estate agent made a lot of comments about the quality of materials. And it was the cleanest construction site we’d ever seen.”

Worth doing right
When the Obenauers ran into a hiccup with the exterior brick on their home, Brookfield took care of the issue quickly. “They redid it and made it right, and that speaks volumes about care, about product, and about being willing to stand by it – and they want to stand by it. Jason still calls and asks if there’s anything we need. Our other builder never would have done that. Your home is such an investment, so to have someone who cares about the investment is so impressive and makes us feel like we made the right decision, this is where we should be. We did the right thing and made the right investment. It was a really good experience overall.”
