Meet the Ray Family

Ray Fam 3

The Ray family didn't want a cookie-cutter home.

When planning a move back to Houston after a year in Corpus Christi for work, they knew they wanted something newer, but they wanted style as well as functionality. “We didn’t want to deal with old house problems, but we thought master-planned communities where all the houses look the same were terrible,” mom Randi says. “When we started looking at houses in our price range with good schools, it kept pulling us farther out to Katy.”

A different kind of neighborhood
The second they pulled into Elyson, they loved the community. “It was intentionally designed; it’s obviously all new builds, but it doesn’t feel like the neighborhood is cold,” Randi says. “The landscaping is thoughtful, and the mix of builders makes it feel more mixed up and less cookie-cutter. The neighborhood just has a different feel.”

Connecting with Brookfield
The Rays started their visit at the Elyson Welcome Center, and when they got to the Brookfield models, they felt a connection. “We loved Belinda, and the model homes were beautiful,” Randi says. “It felt more in line with what I was expecting. The houses felt very welcoming, and you could see the quality. And Belinda is so nice and friendly; she answered any questions we had. I think buying a home should be a happy experience, and it’s a smooth easy process with someone who’s enjoyable.”

The perfect layout
As an event planner, Randi values layout and design, and she was instantly drawn to the flow of the Rutgers floor plan. “It was special; the layout was smart, and they used the square footage well,” she says. “We liked how the master closet is connected to the laundry room, and then it connects to the garage – it’s nice to have that in the same space. We also liked how the staircase goes above that area on the back side.”

Quick responses come standard
Because they needed to move quickly, the Rays went with an inventory home that was already completed. “The process was really easy,” Randi says. “The builder was super helpful; anytime we email or ask a question, we get a response within the day. It’s amazing since we’re coming from an old house where you ask yourself ‘Where does this light switch go?’ Here I can call the builder, ask a question, and get an answer.”

Sharing the joy
The Rays recently hosted a Christmas party, and friends and family members got to see their new home for the first time. “Everyone was impressed with the natural light,” Randi says. “Our other houses were so dark; this one is bright and light. Just the details and the quality of the selections – we have great finishes. We’ll never go back to a home that’s not newly built.”
